My husband was discharged from bankruptcy several years ago. He had just finished his studies at the time, so his student loans weren't discharged. Eight years later, we're still without income (we're on welfare), so we've never repaid our student loans. He owes $26,000 and I owe $16,000. We have no other debts. Can my husband have this debt discharged? And do I have to go through bankruptcy to have it discharged? I finished my studies 10 years ago.

I believe you both need to consider bankruptcy. Meet with a trustee for a complete analysis of your situation.
