I'm a co-signer for my ex-partner. It's a car loan. If he declares bankruptcy (since he's no longer making payments and wants to get rid of the car), will the car be seized? Will I be obligated to pay the loan? Will I have to declare bankruptcy as well? I'm currently unemployed (I had a seasonal job) and I don't own anything of value that I could seize or use to help with the loan.

As a guarantor, you are responsible for the car loan. If the borrower stops making payments, the lender will repossess the car, sell it, and claim any losses from you.

If you also declare bankruptcy, you will then be released from your guarantee.
